"Another Old Soldier has Passed from Earth to Heaven Above"
       He was born July 23, 1837 in Wentworth, Grafton Co., New Hampshire, removed with his parents 1856 Oneida, Knox Co., Ill.   He served three years, three months civil war, enlisted 124th, Ill. Temperance Regiment (composed of mostly Good Templars.)   Married 1886 Mariella Sumner in Marion, New Hampshire, settled in Ill's. fall 1878.   Removed with his family to Council Grobe, Kansas where resided until death.   He was truly a patriot as any who lost their life on the field of battle.   Having never known what it was to be well since the war.   The direct cause of death was peumoia and after a short severe attack, he quietly and peacefully passed away.   He leaves a wife - two daugters Mamie and Katie - two brothers, L. B. Aikepn, Denver, Colorado;   E. D. Aiken Galesburg to mourn his death.   At the time of the organization of the farmers & drovers bank, of this city.   He was elected one of the director and continued until the time of his death.   Feb. 21, 1881 joined Aquw Lodge,   Member First Congregational church.   Funeral from the residence, Rev. L. Arhsby.   The Lodge in Charge
       Note;   I have yet to find his military records for the 124th Ill. Inf.

From the April 23, 1879 Issue of the Galesburg Republican
       Dr. B. F. Brown died at his home aged 39 years, 11 months, 16 days.   He was native of Steuben County, New York.   At age thirteen, shortly after his father's death he united with Methodist Episcopal Church of which he remained a member until his death.   Began study of medicine at 19 years and when Civil War broke out he enlisted in the army and by detail served as Hospital Steward at Washington City for three years, when he was Promoted to the office of Surgeon U. S. Navy, where he served one year and was honorably discharged.   He then entered Albany Medical College and attended the third course of lectures, graduated with honors declining the invitation of friends to follow his profession near his home of youth.   He came to this place in 1866 where he built up a fine practice which he kept until hi death.   He also had an office in his church.   He leaves an aged mother, five children and a worthy wife.   Service at M. E. Church.
